Kate and Ed's marquee wedding at Buckhurst Park in Withyham was one of those days where everything just worked. The English country house sits in gorgeous East Sussex countryside, and when I arrived, staff and family were putting final touches on the massive marquee set up on the estate grounds. The mansion behind it all looked incredible. First time shooting at Buckhurst Park for me, and I could already tell I'd want to come back.
Preparations started at an old cottage down the estate's long drive, where Kate got ready with her family and bridesmaids around her. Meanwhile, Ed and his groomsmen had gone to the local pub for a pint, getting in some relaxed time before the day really ramped up.
Buckhurst Estate: A Picturesque Wedding Venue
St Michael and All Angels church was full of guests by the time I got there. Kate looked gorgeous walking in with her red hair and this beautiful Jesus Peiro dress. You could see Ed at the front looking pretty nervous waiting for her.
The ceremony went beautifully, ending with an explosion of confetti as Kate and Ed came out, both absolutely beaming. Ed's top hat added a nice touch of class to the moment.
Short drive back to Buckhurst Park for the reception, where the estate gardens were ready and waiting. Drinks started flowing, people catching up and laughing. I grabbed Kate and Ed for some shots with the mansion as backdrop.
A Marquee to Make Any Wedding Day Stand Out
The marquee transformation for the evening was impressive. Penelope Cottrell had done these flower displays that everyone kept commenting on. Kate and Ed's entrance got huge cheers, leading into speeches and dinner. May weddings in the UK really do have something special about them, this one proved it.
As afternoon shifted to evening, the estate gave me loads of spots for portraits. Sunset wrapped Kate and Ed in this warm golden light, perfect for the romantic shots. The marquee was buzzing with energy by then, the band getting everyone moving.
Buckhurst Park: One of the Best Wedding Venues in East Sussex
Night arrived and the marquee came alive properly. The 3 piece band had everyone going. There was dancing, laughing, and at some point guests started climbing the marquee poles, Ed even ended up on someone's shoulders. The kind of night where you know everyone's having the absolute best time.
Driving away later, I was already thinking about the edit. Kate and Ed's Buckhurst Park wedding had given me so much to work with, from the elegant ceremony to that wild evening reception. The venue really does work perfectly for marquee weddings, and this day showed exactly why.
I hope you enjoy looking through Kate & Ed’s sophisticated East Sussex wedding! If you like this one then definitely take a look at Allistair & Ella’s Marquee wedding in Dorset or Helena & Josh’s stunning Brympton House wedding in Somerset.
