Over the past few years, I've been lucky enough to photograph weddings all across Europe and further afield. I've shot in some incredible places, châteaux in the Dordogne region of France, rolling hills in Tuscany, Lake Bled in Slovenia, sunny valleys in northern Spain and Portugal, Greek islands, Lake Como and the Amalfi Coast, plus the Swiss Alps.Every place has been different to work in, and I really enjoy figuring out how to capture weddings in these various settings. Whether you're getting married on a beach, in a historic city centre, or somewhere completely off the beaten track, I'm there to document your whole adventure.

Working abroad definitely adds some complexity, but I quite like that, it keeps things interesting! Just because your wedding's happening in another country doesn't mean I'll change how I work. I'm still focused on the same things - you two, your families and friends, and capturing all the happiness of your day. You'll still get loads of photos of your guests laughing, getting a bit emotional, and absolutely going for it on the dance floor!

I hope you like the look of my work! I love getting to travel and meet new people, I'm guessing if you're planning a destination wedding, you probably do too? Below you'll find more information regarding my destination wedding photography, but if you have any specific questions about having me as your experienced destination wedding photographer, please feel free to contact me using my contact page. I would also love to know more about your marriage plans and where in the world you have chosen to celebrate your big day. Whether it’s a remote island or a bustling city.

"5 stars is a severe understatement for the high rating Richard deserves. If you are looking for a wedding photographer, please just stop your search here. Hiring Richard was the best decision we could have made and we are so glad that we did!"

FAQ / DESTINATION WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

01

How long will you stay before and after the wedding?

For destination weddings, I like to arrive at least a day before the wedding, so I can get to know the area and the venue and find the best locations for photographs. In some cases, I would arrive 2 days before I can make it to the wedding in good time. I would normally fly out the day after the wedding.

02

Will there be any extra costs for destination wedding photography?

Yes, there are extra costs depending on which package you go for. For the full package with two photographers anywhere in Europe, I charge a flat £900 to cover flights, accommodation, car hire and all the other travel bits. For the favourite package in Europe, it's a flat £600 for expenses. If you're getting married outside Europe, just drop me a line and we can chat about costs.

03

How do we go about booking you for our destination wedding?

Wherever the location for your wedding firstly get in touch and check my availability for your date. If I'm available, then all you will need to do is pay a 20% non-refundable retainer (This will guarantee that no else books me for your wedding date) from the price of the package you select and sign an online contract to secure my services. The expenses will need to be paid eight months before the weddings, so I can purchase my flight and finally the remaining balance one month before your wedding date.

04

Why choose me over a local photographer?

So you could definitely choose a local photographer over a travelling destination wedding photographer but sometimes each country has a unique style and method to wedding photographer. Do your research on photographers in the country of your wedding, if you don't feel the style is right for your day then a destination photographer is the way to go.

05

Where have you photographed weddings?

I've been all over Europe and a bit further for work. Being based in the UK makes it pretty easy to get around the continent. I've shot weddings in France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Greece, Ireland, and Slovenia - each place has been different in terms of culture, food, and atmosphere, which always adds something special to the photos.

DESTINATION PHOTOGRAPHY

MY STYLE AND APPROACH TO DESTINATION PHOTOGRAPHY

GROUPS / Simple group shots that won't take your whole wedding day

So just because I don't show many group photographs on my website, does not mean I don't think they're significant to a wedding day. I do them at every single destination wedding and feel it's right to include some family, friends, bridesmaids & groomsmen photographs. I suggest to all couples to keep this list down to around 6-8 group photographs which firstly means you'll get more time to enjoy catching up with friends and family rather than spending an hour trying to get multiple iterations of the same shot done and secondly, you'll get more shots of the photographic style you booked me for.

DANCE FLOOR / Helping people remember the party since 2009

Having the chance to photograph the dance floor at a wedding is one of my favourite parts of the job! My aim is to get as close to the action as possible. So whether your mate is 'attempting' the worm, or your bridesmaid is in the centre of a circle with those epic moves, I'll be there. When all your friends rush to the dance floor after the first dance, I'll be there. When you both get lifted on top of someone's shoulders, hands in the air, and ecstatic smiles on your face, I'll be there to document it all! With a smile on my face. This is why I love being a destination wedding photographer!

PORTRAITS / Creating timeless, engaging and fun portraits

So forget looking blankly at the camera for countless photographs. Instead, I want you both to not only enjoy the photo shoot on the wedding day but also capture some incredible and natural images of you both together. I've got a few techniques up my sleeves to not only make it fun but make you both forget you're having your photographs taken. There will be laughter and connection, and combined with some beautiful light and creative compositions I will create some elegant modern portraits of you both that will look incredible whether that be on Instagram or proudly printed in a frame!

DOCUMENTARY / honestly documenting the story of the day

Documentary wedding photography is a method that I use that helps in documenting the story of the day and everyone who came together to celebrate it with you both. My main goal is for you both to enjoy your wedding and focus on what's important, celebrating your love and time with your close ones and not feeling like the whole day has turned into a photoshoot! As a destination wedding photographer I want to capture the day as it was, with all the laughter, love and everything in between. I'll be where I need to be to catch all the excitement and those nervous moments too. What matters to me is showing how your day really went - all those candid moments that you'll love having years down the line.
